Oasis at 2500m
As always I started the day with my homework. Only, today, a call with a member of the global doughnut community was part of it. He is involved in biobased bouwen for about 25 years, has a global network in it and, of course, a lot of experience. We talked for almost two hours, about our passion, our wishes and dreams and our work. We shared information and documents. Certainly a great inspiration and well valued contact!
Later, in the village, I arranged my trip to the geysirs up in the mountains. Was quickly done. Would have liked to do a stargazing tour. These must be amazing, out here in the dessert without any lightpolution. But I exactly choose the rare clouded days to be here. No stargazing for me. Not here. It’s a pity.

Sometimes I wonder, how deeply our surroundings influence what we do and to what we are used to. Had some lunch in a restaurant nearby. Maybe, it wasn’t a good idea to choose salmon, out here in the dessert. Maybe, it is, because they are used to drought. The salmon was as try as it can get. Honestly, not far off dust. Tasted well, but dry. Like the dessert. It took me by surprise.
I went on my as usual unprepared scroll through the village, the parts war people actually live (and no tourists come), went to the edges of the oases. And I can tell you: at 2500m much less is needed to let you feel your walk. My face and lips: try as hell. With the sun over her height, it started quite soon to cool down. Midday it feels like summer, the rest of the day you realise, it’s winter. Freezing at night.
This evening, I organised the rest of my journey and a place to stay back home after returning to Europe. Still not feeling the urge to go, except for seeing everybody again.
