Nothing but dull
Sometimes, during the trip, I was curious, where we were. Though I checked it on Maps. In the early morning, it was Curitiba.
This town was one of the examples during the Doughnut Economics workshop I gave in Viçosa. About 30 years ago, they had major issues with poverty, crime and accumulating waste (and illnesses) in townships. Thus, the mayor/city council came up with the project to put waste stations along the edges of the townships. When people returned their waste, they got bus tickets to town, where they could find work. For organic waste they got food.
This is one of the examples, where connecting a dot at the inner circle of the doughnut (mobility, work, food) with one of the dots at the outer circle of the doughnut (polution, material use) just can work little wonders, without high investments.
Not sure, the program still exists.

The drive from the bus terminal to the hotel was quite what longer than I had expected. On the map, it looked like almost next to each other. Learning point: have to cross check in maps, what the real distance is.
But what was the hotel a good choice, for this one night! Immediate wanted to stay longer. But that wasn’t possible because of a event they had thet day. Although, the kitchen wasn’t ready, yet.
Took a dive in the pool (after I washed off the dust of the bus in the shower) and had a coffee. For dinner, I went to the historical center of this village, stretching between the beach in the bay and the mountains of the island, which seperated the beach of the bay from the beach at the ocean. Had an amazing meal on the beach, with a beautiful view at the sunset behind the city on the other side of the bay. In the restaurant, hey didn’t understand my Portugees, or English. But with some Spanish we could exchange everything we needed to. First step in the transition to the next language.

When I walked to the restaurant, streets were basically empty, now, some later in the evening, the village came to life. Some traffic, some teens, a little market… a village of late hours, probably. A little church, a community place, little portugees houses. Cosy.
Back in the hotel, I had another coffee at the teras, enjoying the view. And when I went to my room to bed I still could enjoy the very same view. Sweet dreams!
