Singapore
It’s a long flight, back home. Thus, I choose to have a longer stop-over in Singapore. Explore the city a bit. I had a hotel in Robertson Quay, with just around the corner along the river an endless strip of restaurants, clubs and more. Won’t starve! At the evening of arrival, I was there just in time for yet another video call.
I have to admit, I still had no idea, what I wanted to do in the city. Already called in some help lines 🙂
During breakfast, I checked, what travel agencies have on offer. Selected a few hotspots, that sparked my interest. And, on my way out, I spotted a travel guide in the library on display. In French. Scanned through it, selected a few more things and started exploring.
First, I walked to Chinatown. The scent in the street really reminded me of China. The colours, the trades. Recognition. The Temple of the relic of the tooth of Buddha was a special treat. Lighted a candle in the hall of wisdom. Sometimes, the universe works in unpredictable ways. At the wall of 100 Buddhas, one Deity caught my attention. Seemed, it was the guardian Deity of my birthyear. Even in moments you didn’t thought about, you get the chance to learn.
A short ride with the metro, and I was in Little India. And, yes, yet again: the scent, the scenes – full recognition. And as it was lunchtime, I treated myself to an amazing chicken biryani, street food, served on a palm leave. Wash your hands before you start! (and also after lunch, of course)
I was advised to go to the Bukit Timah Hill. Thus, I took the metro to Beauty World. Had a quick look at the temple next to the station and walked over to the reserve. I had a stroll at the Train tracks and took the short hike through Rifle Range Nature Park. To me, the best part of the city I have seen! Green, nothing but natural sounds, lizards, squirrels, monkeys, birds. Loved every second there!
Meanwhile, it was time to hit to the Gardens by the Bay. Of course, I wanted to do a walk at Tree Grove and find a spot for the evening show, Rapsody, it is called as I have it right. The walk high up certainly is impressive. They really created something special. And still, coming form the Nature Park … it’s … artificial.
The Rapsody treat this evening was a opera medley. And I realised, it’s quite some time ago, I was in a theatre. Sharp reminder.
A last metro ride, a walk along the river. And I was back home again, after more than 10 hours roaming the city.
The next day, I only took a river cruise, a walk along the other side of the river. And, I wanted to try the chilli crab. They only had giant crabs. Not an option. 1.6kg? Much too much! I swapped it for prawns, in the same dressing. Check!
Time to pack my things, going home.
