Agra, here we come!
Because of our late arrival in Delhi yesterday we had postponed our take-off to Agra with one hour. At 9am we came for breakfast in the lobby. Met two Americans from North Carolina who waited for their taxi to Agra, too. At 10am our driver stood ready. He claimed, their was not much to see on our trip to Agra, because we took the new highway. With about three hours we reached our homestay in Agra. You could say, with every stay since Shimla we came a bit closer to India.
We took an hour for our check-in and get settled. Set and done, our driver brought us to the Red Ford. More stones, more people? Who can say? Went through the first, second, third… gate towards the Khan Mahal and sooner then we would ever expected, we had the first sight of the Taj Mahal. Right affront of us, just across the river. Amazing! My camera didn’t work, first the battery was empty, then it rejected the memory card…But I was too lglad to really see the Taj, that I even bothered. Just enjoyed the view, sucked in the humming of the place, watched people in their holiday habit. Just was glad to be here. The palace, the nice greenery, all the excited people and the very intriguing view. That was all I needed at that very moment.
From the Fort we drove to Mehtab Bagh, a walking area next to the Taj. Walked a little bit around, fed some cookies to a dog… and enjoyed the sight of the Taj.
Our dinner, we took at GMD. Although an experience.
To celebrate the night, we looked for some cold drinks and snacks out in the streets. Bought what we needed and went back to the homestay. At the roof terrace, with right in front of us the full moon, we tried to wrap up the day and looking at the plans for tomorrow en the day after. Met a gay from Rostock. He was already 70 days in India! Awesome!
Tomorrow morning, we start with the Taj Mahal. And: It is Holi!!
