Flying to Sydney
The evening before, I re-sorted all my luggage… as commonly known, the biohazard checks are pretty firm in Australia.
After checkout … putting the key back in the locker, I had an Uber to the Airport. Much to early. This gave me quite some time to do some digital work, preventing airport time from being wasted. All procedures went very smooth. Also here, you’ll find the ease of Kiwis… The departureboard had three classifications: Go to gate, gate open and Relax! Really, the first airport ever to me, that asked you to relax. Nice touch.
The cityhopper, that took us over the Tasmanian Sea, had already some history, I would say. Kind staff, good service. For my visa, I had applied online. That was already granted 🙂 Thus, it came down to costumers check. The advise in the airplane was: If you are not sure, declare, you have it: better to be give them the chance to judge themself than let find them something, they don’t like to see without knowing. On the form, two questions applied to me: having meds with me and having been in nature in the last 30 days. They didn’t had any interest in my travel meds. They wanted to see my clean hiking boots. Done. Dismissed. A warm welcome to the country.
I had booked an hotel near the airport (before plans were changing). I expected to be in one of the skyscrabers around the airport. Seemed, I had picked a location just on the other side of Alexandra Canal, in a neat little neighbourhood. The accomodation was a combination of hotel, restaurant, pub, brokers office, liquor store and more. Old victorian. Charming people, nice vibe. I thought, I could have my dinner in the beer garden, but it started to rain, pushed me back inside.
After a call and some last homework, I went to bed. Tomorrow, I have one day to explore Sydney.
