Marton Sash and Doors
This morning I had some online meetings. This meant, I couldn’t take a shuttle to one of the other spots; they all were gone already, when I finished.
Luckely, there is one trail, you can do straight of from Waimarino: the Marton Sash and Doors track. Would love to know how this trail got its name. Couldn’t find anything about is. Not, that this would stop me to take the walk 🙂
It starts at the edge from the village, not far from the railway station. The first part follows the railtrack, a not very busy one. In all the time during the walk, I saw one train. Just before you reach the treeline, the path takes an turn through the bushes, hill up to where once was a tramline. At some parts, you walk over wooden beams. Not sure, they are new and to secure the path, or they are a relict from the times it was a tramtrack.
Most of all, I enjoyed the woods. Rich, dense, really showing the cycle of life. Older trees not just a plant, but a whole biotop! So much to see! Blue mushrooms, blue bugs, dragonflys….
The last part of the track back to the village is the same route along the rails as the first part. And I admit, all the grabble got into my legs. Back in the lodge, I took some time to relax; and went off for dinner. Choose a small space, friendly, great food.
