Shaken
After a few emails, I went to town. Along the park, the earthquake memorial. Again, I stayed there for a while. Went through to the Riverside Market, had a little lunch and looked for a stop of the historical tram. Other cities have hop-on/hop-off busses. Here, you have the old trams, you feel the historical parts of the rails. Carrages of at least a 100 years old, adding some charme to the tour. I choose a seat at the right site of the carrage, great place. The only thing was, all the sightseeing is on the left site of the track. It’s not a very big round. Thus, I took a second tour. Got off a few stopps before the final and walked back. Yesterday, I said, the city was rebuilt. I have to correct myself. The city is almost rebuilt. Two churches and a galery have still a lot of work to do and money to raise. The cathedral “lost” their stone maisons to Paris, after Notre Dame had its big fire. Now, reconstruction has restarted.
The rebuilt of the city center? Modern, commercial, shiny. Spacious. Sometimes with a little twist. Roamed a bit around and went back home to pack my things: tomorrow morning I’ll have the train to Greymouth, I’m quite excited about it.
