Driving up to Theth National Park
If you could drive at a speed of 60km/h on average, you could reach Theth from Shkodër within 1,5 hour. Certainly, we took our time to celebrate the landscape, stopped a few times along the road, took some pictures or just stand there in awe. For every passing car, you need to find a spot where the road is broad enough to can pass each other. Quite frequently a question of millimetres. You have to love that kind of challenges to drive up here!
In Theth, we had our (late) lunch: some local dishes and went on to Nderlysaj. That is the community, where the Blue Eye is close by.
We hadn’t think enough about the weekend: all accommodations were taken, basically. That was a bit of a bummer. We headed back to Theth. A few stops and questions later we had a traditional mountain cottage with an extension on the ground for the next days. Amazing mountain views, a bit of tast of traditional living, a good starting point for hikes.
We settled in and went to the store, which claims to have everything you need… until you try to find things for an actual meal 🙂 Well, we used our creativity and imagination to do some decent groceries and went back home for dinner.
In the afternoon, the weather already started to change. More and more clouds, wind… and in the night, finally, a decent thunderstorm. What an echo between the mountains! Quite a lightshow around. Loved it!
