This is is a different journey. Of course, I travel as always to explore. But this time, there is a deeper meaning. On road for Stichting Chica, a foundation I became recently a board member of. The foundation supports several schools in Uganda and we are about to visit each one of the projects.
Our plane is leaving early the next morning, thus we spent the night near the airport. Just to save travel time in the night. It’s about a 10-hour flight from Amsterdam to Entebbe, with a quick stop in Kigali. Seems to be a special airport: the landing slip went downhill, on a plateau within the city on the hills around it. Taking off uphill, the runway shouldn’t be any shorter. The plane toke off, just before the edge to the next valley.
Sunday night, we arrived in Entebbe after a short stopover in Kigali. The driver of our hotel picked us up at the airport. From here, it was more than an hour drive. Even at midnight, Kampala is a busy city. First impressions of Uganda in the dark, still busy, some nightclubs along the road. A lot to take in.
We stay in the Red Chili, in the eastern part of the city.
Arranging the rooms. Late night dinner: cake and beer. Bedtime!
