Manaus
We arrived in Manaus late in the evening. Our contact waited for us at the airport. Even it was late, we got a little D-tour to show us the stadium and the Samba Drum. When we arrived at the hotel, the restaurant was closed. The receptionist advised us to call for delivery. Uber Eat didn’t work in Manaus. The local app was iFood, but that you only can use with a Brazilian phone number; we didn’t have. But Brazilians are very kind: the receptionist lent me his phone to order. About an hour later, our dinner came in, different from what we thought we had ordered. But food for the night, anyway.
After a slow start in the morning we called our guide to arrange a boat trip to the so-called “Meeting of the Waters”, the confluence of the Rio Solimões and Rio Negro, becoming the Amazone river. Due to different temperatures and flow speeds, the two flow peacefully side by side, clearly visible for about 6 km.
Not far from this area, a floating village nests in a bay of the river. Houses, schools, churches, shops and bars on certain wood-logs along the river banks. A colourful community, in many ways.
We also visited the sea roses. Impressive leaves on the water, flowers blooming in the morning. The first day white, the second pink, the third full red. The seeds have a whole cycle up and under water, just creating 1 leaf and 1 flower after about 40 days. Love sea roses anyway 🙂
On our way back, we searched the local market. Most fish and fresh vegetables were sold, already. We had a nice drink nearby. For some last shopping before leaving for the boat tour on the Rio Negro, we couldn’t find the right shop in town; thus our guide brought us to a mall at the edge of the town. Not really our thing, but did deliver. Right before the rain, we were back in our hotel with our errants.
Dinner in the hotel was good, but different from the other places, until now.
