Train to Adelaide
The Uber was a bit early, he prepared for already heavy trafiic. That’s fine. He seemed to know the town quite good, didn’t drive on navigation, took me through some suburbs I hadn’t have seen yet. Love that kind of treats! The luggage drop off at the station was easy. The check in at the train and boarding bit chaotic.
The train is advertised with great views along the route. Unfortunatly, I had a seat with basically no view at all. Thus, I asked the attendant if I could change seats, as there were other seats not taken, yet. She would look into it. No answer for two hours. Thus, I tried to find her again, didn’t find her, but another attendant. She showed me a seat, where she was not sure if it would be available the whole ride. Anyway. Now, at least, I could watch the scenary. Even saw some kangaroo, an emu along the tracks. With the New Zealand train rides in mind, this one isn’t that spectacular. Still, I love to see the landscape passing by, with nothing to worry about. 10 hours is quite a movie 🙂
The meal service wasn’t as good as at the (standaard) train from Sydney to Melbourne, which was about half the price. Don’t understand me wrong… I was not dissappointed! I just didn’t experience the extra thrill they promised from Journeys Beyond.
Disembarquing at Adelaide was chaos pure. The attendant in the train had given a quite different explaination than the people of the train station called out and applied. Glad, I arranged an Uber by myself.
If you make as many bookings as I did now… you don’t remember exactly what you booked at which spot. At least, I don’t. And though, everytime it is a bit of a surprise… I booked backpackers as 4 stars as well, depending on location, availability and price. This one was certainly a treat!
I took an evening walk through the neighbourhood, just to stretch the legs. Went to dinner and – after some reading – to bed.
