Wildlife
With all the commotion in the city, I tried to avoid it as much as possible. I searched for an oppertunity to go into nature, seeing some wildlife. On my way to the south, I took the metro from Eltham, where I stayed, to the city center. Luckely, there is a tunnel from one train station to the other. I could leave the crowd above ground for what it is. The next train brought me to Cranebourne. The PT-pass even stretched that far. Loved it. From the last stop it was a 2,5 km walk. Fine with me 🙂
It was a nice stretch between Baxter and Pearcedale. Except for some walks there you also can find a wildlife sanctury, where they patch up insured or ill animals before they release them again. Some of the accomodations are pretty natural. For owls and parrots, it is the traditional to small cache. I liked the reptiles and some mamals the best. Admit I was glad to have the chance to see an Tasmanian Devil, an Echidna and my first Laughing Kookaburra.
Didn’t know, that beside several other issues, the koala population is in decline also because of a virus in the gum tress, which kills the trees and leaves the koalas without food.

Through the days, I spook with people, who live in Australia or have been here before. All say, this years it is difficult to spot wildlife out in nature. All the rain makes is less nessecary to come to places where they might be spoted.
On my way back, I choose a bus service, that runs through a lot of suburbs along the edges of Melbourne, towards the airport, which is a few stops after Eltham, where I have to be. Another kind of exploring the city.
